Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies to launch the South African-Japan economic study

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, invites members of the media to the launch of the reports of the joint study on economic cooperation between South Africa and Japan.

Date: Friday, 7 June 2013
Time: 11h00 – 12h30
Venue: Imbizo Media Centre, Parliament

NB: There’ll be a video link to GCIS, Tshedimosetsho House, corner Francis Baard and Festival Str, Hatfield, PTA

The proposal for a joint study was endorsed by the two countries during a bilateral meeting that took place in Tokyo, Japan last year. This followed a mutual recognition that economic relationships could be deepened, if both countries were to focus their cooperation in selected sectors wherein the potential for mutually beneficial outcomes existed.

The reports of the study highlight certain areas of joint cooperation with a particular focus on specific sectors to foster further economic activities for increased trade between South Africa and Japan.

Minister Davies will also brief the media on the Trade and Investment agreements that were signed between South Africa and Japan on the side-lines of the recent Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) summit, in Yokohama, Japan. The signed agreements are to promote and develop economic and industrial co-operation between and the two countries.
