Trade and Industry to host South Africa–Saudi Arabia Business Forum
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, and his Saudi Arabia counterpart, will co-chair the 5th session of the SA/Saudi Joint Economic Commission (JEC) on 20 March 2014. In preparation of this, members of the media are invited to the SA/Saudi Business Forum that will be held as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 18 March 2014
Time: 10h00
Venue: Sandton Convention Centre
The Business Forum is expected amongst others to discuss ways of deepening trade and investment relations between the two countries. Saudi Arabia is important for South Africa’s energy security as they supply about 50% of all the country’s imports. This makes Saudi Arabia South Africa’s second biggest source of imports globally.
In 2013 South Africa had a 74.8 billion trade deficit with Saudi Arabia, it is therefore important for South Africa to increase its exports in order to balance trade.
