Trade and Industry to host technology awards in the Northern Cape

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies will deliver a keynote address at the department’s annual Technology Awards that will be held at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre (MSCC) in Kimberley on 15 November 2012 from 18h00. The awards ceremony will be preceded by an exhibition on science and technology during the day.

The purpose of the awards is to raise awareness on the benefits of using technology to improve the competitiveness of enterprises and also to recognise individuals and organisations that contributed towards technology promotion and innovation in South Africa.

Four hundred Grade nine and eleven learners from Kimberley will be transported to the exhibition, with the aim of exposing them to the practical application of science and technology in everyday life, and entice them to pursue science and engineering-related studies at tertiary level.

The Trade and Industry Technology Awards are a combination of the three technology programmes, namely, the Support Programme for Industrial Innovation (SPII) administered by the Industrial Development Cooperation (IDC), Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP) administered by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) Technology Programme.
