The Department of Tourism, in conjunction with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT) and its marketing agency Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) host the Minister’s Public Lecture and the World Tourism Day Celebrations
Drawing inspirations from the 2017 United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) World Tourism Day theme “Sustainable Tourism – a tool for development, researchers - from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and the University of Mpumalanga - will provide insight on how South Africa can utilise responsible tourism practices as a tool to develop a sustainable sector.
It is envisioned that the lecture will give key industry a better understanding of the impact of travel and tourism on society and the environment, and be empowered to employ responsible tourism practices that will encourage radical socio- economic transformation in the sector.
Tourism Stakeholders and the Mpumalanga community will join the world in celebrating World Tourism Day on the 27 September 2017. Festivities will be held under the I Do Tourism Sustainably banner in a bid to encourage domestic travel.
World Tourism Day (WTD) is an annual United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) event that is celebrated on the 27th of September throughout the world.
