The newly appointed MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Ms Molebatsi Bopape will see off the Gauteng Marathon team as it leaves for participation in the 2014 Comrades Marathon. The team’s send-off is on 29 May, 2014 at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Benoni.
The MEC will be joined by the president of Gauteng Sports Council Mr Berry Hendricks to bid farewell to the 22-member team which includes 2 visually impaired athletes.
The initiative is part of the department’s programme to promote access in sport, targeting underprivileged and talented athletes to get a chance to participate in the competitive level thereof.
