Swearing in of new Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (MPLS)

Wednesday, 21 May 2014 will go down in history as the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) Members of the Legislature are officially sworn in. This official swearing-in takes place every five years each time a new Legislative term commences, post the national democratic elections.

The ceremony will take place as follows:
Venue: Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), Selbourne Hall; Cnr. President & City Hall Streets, JHB
Date: Wednesday, 21 May 2014
Time: 10h00

Hon. Judge President Dunston Mlambo has given notice for general information under and by virtue of the power vested in him in terms of section 110(1), read with sections 111(2) and 128(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa that he has fixed a date and time at the Provincial Legislature building, Johannesburg, as the place for the nomination and election of the Premier of the Gauteng Province, and thereafter for the nomination and election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislature.

The taking of an oath or affirmation by Members of the Provincial Legislature will also take place on the same fixed date, before the nomination and election of the Premier, Speaker and Deputy Speaker. This will be followed by the swearing in of the Premier, Speaker and Deputy Speaker as required by section 107 read with section 111(1) section, section 128(2) and section 129 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
