The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Local Government and Housing will be hosting a workshop under the theme “Strengthening cooperative governance to contribute towards a developmental local government through effective oversight.” The theme is based on an oversight role by the Portfolio Committee to ensure and enable a well coordinated and integrated approach in providing effective and efficient services to communities.
The workshop seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- Reflect on the status of local government in the province;
- Assess the level of support provided by the Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to municipalities on revenue enhancement and debt recovery; and attainment of clean audits by 2014;
- Assess progress made by Gauteng municipalities in achieving universal access to basic services for all households in the province; and
- To promote cooperative governance in the province.
The Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, as well as the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements and various stakeholders will be presenting during the workshop.
