The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has appointed the company Risimati Consulting Engineers (PTY) Ltd as an Implementing Agent (IA) for the completion of the Dr. J.L Dube Amphitheatre in Inanda, Ethekwini Metro Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal Province.
In 2014, the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) had appointed IDT. However, their work had structural defects. As an intervention, DSAC appointed Risimati Consulting Engineers who are doing remedial work (which was disrupted by the local business forum who held the process hostage). However, since late 2022, Risimati Consulting Engineers has picked up the pieces and are aiming to complete the project by November 2023.
Th project is intended to create a physical facility that will ensure the promotion and preservation of the legacy of Dr. J.L Dube. It is part of the departmental mandate to ensure transformation of the heritage landscape to reflect the whole of the country and all its people.
It is against this background, that the Minister considers it prudent to conduct a site visit to this project site.
