Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and its Flagship Programme Indoni SA to host Indoni Mr and Miss Cultural South Africa
Indoni South Africa, a hub of African intellectual and indigenous knowledge systems, will this coming weekend host its 2022 10th Indoni Mr and Miss Cultural South Africa spectacle.
"Indoni SA" is a flagship program of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), which organizes heritage celebrations annually. This heritage event resurfaces once again after a 2-year lull period sparked by COVID – 19 with the objective of welcoming back its colourful spectators.
It will be Indoni SA's 10th anniversary celebration this year at the Durban ICC with its parade moving from Durban Smith Street to Richmond where Indoni SA has built its own Culture School (Indoni Village) that annually hosts the youth during the youth month and June school holidays.
Through Indoni My Heritage, My Pride, DSAC addresses social ills and facilitates behavioural change among youth by using identity-based programs. All past participants who have graduated from the culture schools and achieved academic excellence will also be honoured this time around with the Indoni Academic Awards.
On the night of December 16th, 2022, just before the Finale, this part of the ceremony will be held at the Durban International Convention Centre.
The Cultural Parade in Smith Street, Durban has been held by Indoni SA for the last eight years. A new route has been arranged for this year's parade beginning in Richmond CBD and ending at the Indoni Cultural Village, where Indoni kids will be participating in the program.
Dr Stella Khumalo, Deputy Director General of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, commented about the Indoni Programme and its objectives: "Our support for this program is paramount, as it has ultimately led to the building of a school that focuses on cultural and moral sustainability and longevity, and a school we can proudly call home.
It is evident that moral regeneration is necessary because this programme has been running for ten years. This also proves how relevant such interventions are at this point in time. Nowadays, youths are easily led astray so they use drugs and abuse alcohol, resulting in high rates of sexual abuse, teenage pregnancy, and HIV infection."
