Special Investigating Unit hosts sixth General Assembly, 31 Jul to 1 Aug

Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities to meet in Kempton Park to discuss the fight against corruption and illicit financial flows

The Association of African Anti-Corruption Authorities (AAACA) will hold its 6th General Assembly in Kempton Park, South Africa from 31 July- 1 August 2023.

The General Assembly will focus on the global fight against corruption and tackling money laundering, exchanges on national experiences in the fight against corruption and illicit financial flows, and the importance of collaborative and coordinated approaches to asset recovery in Africa.

The theme for the General Assembly is: “Promote citizen engagement in the fight against corruption and illicit financial flows, guarantee of the holistic development of the African continent”.

AAACA was established in 2011 by the heads and representatives of anti-corruption institutions as a continental platform for the fight against corruption. It is made up of anti-corruption authorities from 45 African countries and South Africa is represented by the Special Investigating Unit.

It seeks to provide a platform for African countries to tackle corruption as well as reinforce and strengthen good governance across the continent. The existence of AAACA is in line with objectives of the African Union to promote good governance, democratic principles, international cooperation, greater unity, and increased solidarity between the African countries.

Deputy President of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) and Head of the SIU, Adv. Andy Mothibi will open the General Assembly followed by an address by President of AAACA, Dr General Khaled Said Mohamed Hassan.

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola will deliver the keynote address on the opening Day of the General Assembly.

The Assembly will also be attended by the Hong Kong based IAACA President, Simon Peh.
