SAPS to launch 2018/2019 annual National Safer Festive Season Operations: Port Elizabeth
As mandated by Section 205 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (Act No 108 of 1996) and the National Development Plan 2030, Minister of Police General Bheki Cele together with National Police Commisioner General Khehla John Sitole will on Thursday, 01 November 2018 launch the National Safer Festive Season crime-fighting campaign in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.
The SAPS’s annual Safer Festive Season Operation’s crime-fighting campaign, under the theme “Quiet Storm” is aimed at making South Africa a safe place during the festive season. As part of the Safer Festive Season campaign, police will conduct operations countrywide until January 2019.
The focus will be on visible policing and conducting special crime awareness and prevention operations. Safer Festive Season campaign will also focus on combatting aggravated robberies, crimes against women and children, enhancement of border security, enforcement of Liquor and Second-hand Goods Acts, enforcement of by-laws, road safety as well as activities to combat the proliferation of illegal firearms.
