The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies will address members of the media on the Film and TV Production incentive. The Department of Trade and Industry gives incentives to producers and film companies that use South Africa as a preferred film location.
“Fury Road” is one of the films that has benefitted from this incentive. It is currently being filmed in South Africa and features Oscar winner, Charlize Theron, as a lead actor. Fury Road was approved on 28 June 2012 with an incentive of 81 million Rand. It is the largest feature film to date to be done in SA by Warner Bros and the portion was filmed in Namibia. Currently the film is shooting in Cape Town and the production will support over 800 jobs in the industry.

Since 2008 the Department of Trade and Industry has approved 271 productions, 159 of which are local, 63 co-productions and 49 foreign films.
The objectives the Film and TV Production incentive are to encourage and attract large-budget films and television productions and post-production work that will contribute towards employment creation, enhancement of international profile, and increase the country’s creative and technical skills base.
