South Africa hosts South-South Conference on the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions

South Africa, through the Department of Arts and Culture, will hold the South to South conference on the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, at the Hilton Hotel, Durban from 21 – 23 March 2013.

The aim of the Conference is to bring delegates that have endorsed the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The delegates will have an opportunity to replicate the benefits of the 2005 UNESCO Convention to the cultural and creative industries of South-South countries. This will further strengthen South to South relations in the trade of cultural goods and services.

Furthermore, the conference aims to give countries from the South an opportunity to debate positions on key fundamental issues such as establishment of the World Culture Forum and strategies for sustainable development in creative and cultural industries. The conference deliberations and resolutions will be captured through a Declaration at the end of the convention.
