In line with its plan to have increased focus on the 21 entities responsible for skills development in the country, the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training will be briefed by two Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) on Wednesday, 20 May 2015.
The committee will be briefed by the Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) and the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA). Both the TETA and MQA will provide briefings on their Strategic Plans for 2015-2019 and their Annual Performance Plans for 2015/16.
Following the committee’s recent meeting with the Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport SETA (CATHSSETA) and the Safety and Security SETA (SASSETA) – which are both under administration – Chairperson Mrs Yvonne Phosa indicated that the activities of the 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) would be scrutinised closely with particular focus on governance and administration.
“The SETAs are key in ensuring that there is the much-needed skills development in the country. As per what we stated before, we will be putting the SETAs under the microscope to ensure that they deliver on this significant mandate as envisaged in the National Development Plan,” said Mrs Phosa.
The meeting will take place at the Old Assembly Chamber from 9h30.
