The North West Provincial Legislature’s Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA) will be holding a follow up meeting with MEC for Social Development, Mosetsanagape Mokomele-Mothibi at the Legislature Committee Room 2 on Tuesday, 19 February 2013 at 09h30.
The Committee had called the MEC to account after media reports alleged that the MEC had interfered with tenders in the department and also used taxpayers’ money amounting to R174 000 to pay for her friend and officials to go to Bloemfontein during the time of the African National Congress Elective Conference.
The MEC together with the Head of Department, Matshidiso Mogale, had appeared to the Committee last week and were asked to bring supporting documentation that would speak to their responses on the alleged misuse of public funds.
The Committee had said failure to bring sufficient evidence that speaks to their responses would result to the Committee ordering them to pay back the money to state coffers with immediate effect.
