Scientists to be honoured at prestigious awards ceremony

The Minister of Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom, will deliver a keynote address at the NSTF-BHP Billiton Awards at The Emperor's Palace (Assembly Ballroom) from 19h00 on 27 June 2013.

A partnership between National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) and BHP Billiton, the prestigious awards reward and promote excellence in the South African science, engineering, technology and innovation community. The awards recognise teams and individuals, and cut across sectors, levels, gender and race to reward professional, innovative and forward-looking scientific research that is relevant to South Africa and the rest of the world.

Twelve award recipients will be announced during the ceremony, including winners in the science communication outreach and research capacity development categories, and the TW Kambule NRF awards for emerging researchers.

The NSTF will also recognise 18 first-year university students who were top achievers in mathematics and physical science in last year's grade 12 examinations.

All media are welcome to attend.
