Schools and municipalities to share R4 million for responsible environmental practices

The Bontle ke Botho (BkB) Clean and Green campaign will see deserving participants share close to R4 million for demonstrating commitment to sound environmental practices during the 2013/14 financial year.

The campaign was established by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2002 to heighten environmental awareness and encourage sustainable environmental practices in communities at school, ward and municipal level. The five themes to promote this are water conservation, energy efficiency, waste management, sustainable agriculture and greening.

The best performing local and metro level municipalities will represent Gauteng province in the national Greenest Municipality Competition. This year’s hosting metro is Ekurhuleni, the 2013 Greenest Municipality in South Africa.

The media is invited to celebrate with grassroots environment practitioners as the next Gauteng representative for the National Greenest Municipality competition is announced.

Details are as follows:
Date: Friday, 22 August 2014
Time: 11h30
Venue: The Lakes Hotel and Conference Center, Ekurhuleni
