School of Government hosts Breaking Barriers to Entry programme certificate handover ceremony, 27 Oct

National School of Government on mission to skill young graduates in KZN

The National School of Government (NSG) is this week facilitating the Breaking Barriers to Entry (BB2E) in the Public Service training in the Manguzi area, KwaZulu-Natal. This follows a call by the Minster for Public Service and Administration, Ms Faith Muthambi, to capacitate young graduates in the area following a community outreach that she hosted during May 2017.

Minister Muthambi convened the community outreach meeting as part of government wide approach towards public participation where Ministers engage with communities in order to ensure constant link of engagement about issues that affect their lives and service delivery. During the engagements, it was discovered that there is high unemployment rate amongst young graduates in the Umhlabuyalingana Local Municipality.

The BB2E is a flagship programme of the NSG aimed at preparing unemployed graduates to access employment opportunities in the public service. The orientation programme is underpinned by values and principles found in Chapter 10 of the Constitution and is aimed at orientating learners to the public service, how the public service is organised and the way the public service functions.

The NSG is facilitating the programme in three different sessions, from which the first leg is currently taking place in the Umhlabuyalingana Local Municipality. Each session will be for a period of five days.  A total of 95 participants will be trained. The session in Manguzi comprises of 95 learners in three locations, and the total number of participants that would have been trained at the end will be 95.

The BB2E programme will equip unemployed graduates in the Manguzi area with knowledge of public administration and public service and how they are organised and function. Participants will gain skills on how to prepare for employment in the public service.

Media is invited to attend a certificate handover ceremony which will be officiated by the Umhabuyalingana Local Municipality’s Cllr Nkululeko Mthethwa.
