SAPS first quarter expenditure under scrutiny

Portfolio Committee on Police will tomorrow (Friday, 19 September 2014) be briefed on how South African Police Service (SAPS) spent its budget in the first quarter of the 2014/15 financial year.

At the end of June 2014, SAPS had spent R16.5 billion or 22.8% of its R72.5 billion annual budget. This is marginally below the approved benchmark of 25% set by National Treasury. The percentage spending shows a similar trend when compared to the same period during 2013/14 financial year… it was at 23.8% of the budget was spent.

Tomorrow’s meeting will therefore afford committee members an opportunity to seek reasons as to why this is the case.

Details of the meeting are as follows:
Venue: M314
Time: 9h00
Date: 19 September 2014
