Safer environment for women and children is everybody's business

Many are the gains of democracy that have been made towards the protection of women's rights and dignity and the safeguarding of children's rights. However, the concern still remains the crime levels against vulnerable groups in society.

Minister Lulu Xingwana will this afternoon speak at the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality's Social Cohesion Imbizo in Soshanguve under the theme "Safer environment for women and children is everybody's business".

The event is aimed at mobilising the community to unite to end violence against women and children in line with the United Nations's Orange Day campaign which encourages stakeholders to join efforts to eradicate gender-based violence.

"Gender-based violence is not just a police issue, it is not just a social worker issue, it is not just a government issue, it is not just a women issue. It affects all of us in society, it requires men and women, young and old to work side by side to eradicate this evil in our communities," states Minister Xingwana.

The event takes place as follows:
Date: 2 May 2014
Time: 12h30
Venue: Block X Community Hall (next to the Clinc), Soshanguve, Pretoria.
