SA Table Tennis Championships Mangaung, Bloemfontein

Table Tennis Federation (FSTTF), the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR), Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) and the Free State Sport Confederation (FSSC) will be hosting its annual SA Junior and Senior Interregional and Open Table Tennis Championships in Bloemfontein from 6 to 12 July 2014.

Since its unification in 1991, the South African Table Tennis Board has come a long way in introducing the sport of table tennis to all spectrums of the South African population. Table Tennis is played in all nine Provinces at club and regional association levels as well as at schools and caters for categories of disabilities.

The main purpose of the South African Table Tennis Board is to deliver the sport of table tennis to all in SA, to promote table tennis socially and competitively both nationally and internationally as well as to provide a competitive pathway for athletes and officials.

Given our purpose for existence, SATTB has recognised the need to showcase the attractive game of table tennis in all parts of the country and therefore consciously decided to allocate its premier event, the SA Junior and Senior Inter-Regional and Open Championship for 2014 to its affiliate Free State Table Tennis Federation.

The event consists of 2 sections i.e. Inter-Regional and Open championship. The Championship consists of four (4) categories, namely; U12/14/17 and Seniors for both males and females. All of SATTB affiliated members are allowed to compete in the Inter-Regional competition, but the Open event is open to any registered members and associate members of the SATTB as well as registered members of the ITTF. The Namibian Table Tennis Association will also compete in the current championships.

The event (competition) is used by SATTB for talent identification purposes for national team selection whilst showcasing its elite athletes in all categories. The competition for national honours is fierce and old rivalries will resume particularly between the South and North.

The 2014 tournament is organised as follows:
Date: 6 to 12 July 2014
Venue: Tempe Military Base Indoor Sport Centre, Bloemfontein
