Road Traffic Management Corporation honours fallen heroes and heroins, 2 Nov

Fallen heroes and heroins to be remembered at a national wreath laying ceremony

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) will honour Traffic Officers who have died in the line of duty at a National Wreath-Laying Ceremony on 2 November 2018 at Boekenhoutkloof Traffic College in Pretoria.

This ceremony will not only honour fallen officers but will also be a day on which the nation pays homage to their families and remaining colleagues. About 1 000 people are expected to attend the event.

Attacks on traffic officers have been on the increase recently with officers killed as a result of hit and run incidents by motorist who defy orders to stop while some were shot at by motorists while on conducting roadblocks.

Minister of Transport Dr Blade Nzimande will be joined by MECs, CEOs of transport entities and traffic chief from all provinces and key municipalities.

This initiative was initiated in 1993 to remember traffic officers who are killed on roads on while performing their duties. A Memorial Wall has been erected at the College as a symbol of remembrance.
