Public Works Deputy Minister Jeremy Cronin launches Cemetery Maintenance Programme

The Deputy Minister of Public Works Mr.Jeremy Cronin, (MP) cordially invites you to the launch of the Cemetery Maintenance Programme which will be co-hosted by Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and the Joe Morolong Local Municipality as follows:

Background

The EPWP Environment and Culture sector Cemetery Maintenance Programme is one of the EPWP expansion areas which has been identified to expand the sector’s work opportunities targets and assist municipalities to deliver on their mandate.

The programme has employed 37 EPWP beneficiaries who are participating in the labour intensive work opportunities such as grass cutting, construction of ablution facilities, development of demarcated parking areas as well as construction of paths and maintenance thereof.

Among others, the objectives of the launch are as follows:

  • Inform and educate the community about the role and mandate of the EPWP in the alleviation of poverty and unemployment through the provision of work opportunities
  • Manage the old and active cemetery thereby enhances its wildlife value, using conservation practices that can be supported by community involvement.
