Public Service Commission reports back to community on issues affecting service delivery

Citizens remain the most important stakeholders of government. In order to ensure that the needs of citizens are heard and addressed, in November 2012, the Public Service Commission (PSC) in partnership with the Msukaligwa Local Municipality hosted the Citizens Forum with community members of Msukaligwa.

The aim of the Citizens Forums was to amongst others, evaluate issues affecting service delivery in the area; enable active involvement of people affected by government programmes in service delivery improvements processes; assess delivery of specific service delivery programmes; improve participation in the planning and implementation of service delivery programmes; and make recommendations on how to improve service delivery.

The PSC is proud to announce that the Citizens Forum held in the Msukaligwa Municipality was a huge success and has resulted, amongst others, in the following achievements:

  • Building of 22 Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) houses in Ward 2 of Msukaligwa Local Municipality;
  • Appointment of 1 librarian and new books procured to the value of R2 million for the Library in Ermelo in the Gert Sibanda Local Municipality;
  • Electrification of 135 out of the targeted 200 households in Ward 2 of Msukaligwa Local Municipality;
  • A site for the construction of a Community Health Centre was identified. The construction will commence in the 2015/16 financial year;
  • MN Cindi clinic upgraded and additional two nursing staff members were appointed. In addition, the clinic’s operational hours were increased from 7h00 to 18h00; and
  • Of the two High mast street lights required in the area, one was installed and has been switched on.

The members of the media are invited to the feedback session which will also include a tour to the completed projects.
