Public Service and Administration hosts Africa Public Service Day at Kwa-Thema Municipal Hall, 23 Jun

The Department of Public Service and Administration will host the Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations at the Kwa-Thema Municipal Hall in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday 23 June 2015.

The government, public servants, public service institutions, academia and citizens in South Africa and the continent at large will celebrate and commemorate the 2015 APSD. The annual national APSD celebrations will take place in Gauteng from 22-23 June and the biennial continental event in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo from 19-23 June 2015.

The commemorations aim at discovering innovations, reward excellence; motivate public servants to do more with passion and courtesy; promotion of professionalism and respectable image of the public service; enhanced trust in government; strengthen the collection, documenting and sharing of best practices with possible replication of best practices locally and across the African Continent.

With the theme: “The role of Public Service in women empowerment, innovation and accessible service delivery”, the celebrations seek to provide a platform for public servants to reflect on the progress and successes, challenges and possible solutions in ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in delivering quality services to all. They further seek to give recognition to public service innovations and make known the importance of the public services, their positive contribution and benefits to public servants and different diverse stakeholders.

The celebrations provide space to motivate and encourage public servants to continue going beyond the call of duty, come up with new initiatives and innovations whilst obtaining feedback from the citizenry on the public services rendered. They further provide an invaluable opportunity for public servants to promote values such as professionalism, accountability, responsiveness, ethics and performance in the delivery of public service.
