Public Service Administration hosts Batho Pele Excellence Awards, 2 Mar

Selfless public servants to be recognised at Batho Pele Awards

The Annual Batho Pele Excellence Awards that seek to recognise dedicated and selfless public servants who go extra mile in serving South Africans with diligence will take place on Friday March 2, 2018 at Birchwood Hotel, east of Johannesburg.

The theme for this year’s National Batho Pele Excellence Awards aimed at promoting professionalism, rewarding, recognising and encouraging excellence in the public service is “Batho Pele – Putting People First.”

In September later this year, South Africa will mark twenty-one years since the adoption of the Batho Pele (Putting People first) Principles and the White Paper on Transforming Public Service Delivery.

The significance of the awards is to work towards realising the National Development Plan (NDP)’s vision 2030 of a professional, accountable and development-oriented public service; sharing of best practices as well as to gauge citizen satisfaction towards government performance with regard to rendering services.

Who is eligible to enter the awards?

The awards only covers public servants in both the national and provincial spheres of government. However, even those working in Chapter (9) nine institutions, including employees on formal contracts and on probation are eligible to enter.

The nominees should at least have been employed for a minimum period of two years in the public service. In the case of a project being nominated, it should at least have been in operation for a year.

Meanwhile, the Life Time Achievement category is meant for active and retired as well as deceased public servants.
