Public Protector enters into an agreement with the NHBRC

Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela will on Monday sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Chief Executive Officer of the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), Mr Mongezi Mnyani.

The agreement has been crafted to outline clearly the nature of relations between the two institutions in so far as their mandates are concerned. It will also assist the Public Protector in the systemic investigation into RDP housing problems that her office is currently embarking upon.

The NHBRC is a regulatory body of the home building industry that protects the interests of housing consumers and ensures compliance to regulated building industry standards.

In terms of the Housing Consumers Protection Measures Act 95 of 1998, which establishes the NHRBC, the Public Protector has the power to review the decisions of the NHRBC.

The signing ceremony will take place as follows:
Date: Monday, 10 June 2013
