Public meeting in preparation for National Council of Provinces taking Parliament to the People in Tshwane Metro

A public meeting is to be held tomorrow to determine the agenda for the Taking Parliament to the People programme scheduled to take place in the Tshwane Metro next month. Friday’s meeting is the culmination of the preliminary oversight visits covering the metro, which started on Tuesday.

National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Chairperson, Mr Mninwa Mahlangu, will address the meeting. Also expected to attend are senior representatives from the Provincial and local government. These include the Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature, Ms Lindiwe Maseko, and the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Mr Kgosientso Ramokgopa.

Members of the community and representatives of community-based organisations are expected to make key inputs at the meeting.

This week’s preliminary visits were to a range of programmes and projects in, among others, Garankuwa, Winterveld, Hammanskraal, Kameeldrift , Cullinan, Silverton and Soshanguve.

The Taking Parliament to the People programme, of which the preliminary visits form part, aims to get first-hand information on the ground on what the Executive has done, or not done, in the area. The Executive will be informed of the findings and asked to rectify issues of concern.

This week’s visits will be followed by a formal sitting of the NCOP in Tshwane during October, where National, Provincial and Local Government will be invited to engage directly with the people.
