The mining sector is also responsible for 37% of the country's liquid fuels through coal, which is essence worth R30 billion.Given the pivotal role of mining in the economy, government continues to work with the sector to promote its growth and expansion so that it can create jobs and contribute to economic development.

Government is also working with the mining sector to promote socio-economic development in mining towns and labour sending areas and to improve the living conditions of workers, in line with the Mining Charter as well as the Presidential Package of October 2012.
