President Jacob Zuma to deliver a keynote address at the Freedom Day celebrations

President Jacob Zuma will deliver a keynote address at the Freedom Day Celebrations to be held on Saturday, 27 April 2013 at Union Building, Pretoria. This year’s celebrations marks nineteen years of democracy in South Africa and will be held under theme “Mobilising society towards consolidating our Democracy and Freedom".

The celebrations will recognise and celebrate the strides that have been made since 1994 as we head towards 20 years of freedom and democracy, acknowledging that South Africa is a far better society than it was before 1994. The celebration also offers us an opportunity to reflect on what we need to do better to improve social and economic conditions of all South Africans.

Activities on the day will include a cultural parade that will depart Freedom Park Main Gate in Koch Street, Salvokop at 07h00 and proceed to Union Buildings. The parade will showcase all South African cultural groups as well as participants from Burundi, Eritrea, DRC, Angola, Zimbabwe, Burundi and Rwanda.

This will be followed by a cultural programme and music performances. Some of the artists who will perform at the event include Bahannanwa Dinaka (Tv 12), Multicultural Dance group, Lolly Gospel group, Desry Hip-Hop, Black Motion, Sgwili & Babo, The Soil, Judith Sephuma, MiCasa and Ralf Gum.

The celebration will commence with a wreath-laying ceremony that will take place as follows:
