President Cyril Ramaphosa hands over Presidential Welisizwe bridges in KwaZulu-Natal, 31 Jan

President Cyril Ramaphosa will undertake a Presidential Welisizwe Bridges Handover in KwaZulu-Natal on the 31st January 2024. 

The Welisizwe Bridges are part of the rural infrastructure investments, The building of 96 bridges in this financial year was announced by the President in his State of the Nation Address last year, Three point three billion rand has been allocated for this task.  In the Province of KwaZulu-Natal, a total of 11 of the 22 Welisizwe Rural Bridges are completed and 11 bridges are under construction.

The handover ceremony affords the President an opportunity to directly  witness the work that has been done since the pronouncements made in the 2023 SONA.

He will be able to engage and give progress on the work government is doing to eliminate infrastructure backlog in rural areas and ensure easy and safe access to opportunities especially in rural communities.

Welisizwe bridges are living examples of  integrated service delivery and the President will also use the occasion to promote Public Participation in line with the District Development Model (DDM).
