Tomorrow, Thursday 18 July, Premier Helen Zille and Western Cape Cultural Affairs & Sport Minister Ivan Meyer will visit an after school MOD Centre for Mandela Day to mark the 95th birthday of former President Nelson Mandela with 67 minutes of service.
Mass Participation, Opportunity & Development (MOD) Centres are the Western Cape Government's pioneering programme to provide recreational and personal development opportunities to young people through sport and cultural activities.
These activities prevent youth-at-risk from slipping into delinquency during after-school hours and help to identify sporting and cultural talent among young people that can be nurtured and developed.
Premier Zille and Minister Meyer will interact with learners, parents and teachers, promoting the "Better Together" message that people must match the opportunities provided by the government with responsibility and participating in some of the MOD Centre activities.
Media are invited to attend.
