Premier Supra Mahumapelo signs Memorandum of Understanding with SANDF on rural development, 27 Aug

Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo will tomorrow, Thursday, 27 August 2015 enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to signify the two parties’ commitment to support government’s development agenda, with a special focus on rural areas.

The planned rural development initiatives which will be in the context of the National Development Plan, will amongst others, see the South African National Defence Force revising its procurement policy to be in favour of small and micro businesses, as well as small scale commercial and emerging farmers in rural areas of Bokone Bophirima Province.

The SANDF will implement this development project in Bokone Bophirima Province as a pilot project, before rolling it out to other provinces.

Premier Mahumapelo says the signing of this MOU will give effect to the prioritisation of Agriculture, Culture and Tourism (ACT) as key economic pillars, and the 5th Administration’s deliberate focus on developing Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies’ economies.

It is expected that the execution of this project will be in two phases, from the date of signing of the MOU up to 2019/20 financial year.
