Premier Mabuyane officially hands over new Bethelsdorp High School, marking a new chapter for the community
Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, accompanied by Education MEC Fundile Gade, will on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, officially hand over the newly built Bethelsdorp High School in Gqeberha, marking a significant step forward in education infrastructure and development for the Bethelsdorp community.
The handover follows the completion of a modern, state-of-the-art facility equipped with modern-day facilities to provide learners and educators with a safe, conducive and well-equipped environment that enhances teaching and learning in the area.
The new facilities include a research laboratory, ICT centre, SNP kitchen, administration block, playing fields, water tanks and perimeter fencing, as well as electrification and an access gate manned by safety officers.
These facilities are designed to create a safe, modern and conducive learning environment, while supporting the holistic development and wellbeing of learners and improving the overall quality of education in the community.
The school will also serve as a valuable community resource, extending its benefits beyond learners to members of the surrounding community. Community members interested in computer literacy, digital skills and other ICT-related activities will be able to access the school’s ICT facilities after school hours.
This will create opportunities for lifelong learning, digital inclusion and skills development, particularly for young people and other community members seeking to improve their digital skills and access to information and economic opportunities.
The opening of the school is part of the ongoing efforts by the Eastern Cape Provincial Government to improve access to quality education, provide modern learning facilities and equip learners with the skills and resources required.
