Premier Nomvula Mokonyane hosts Premier's Service Excellence Awards, 27 Feb

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane to honour service excellence in government

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane will on Thursday, 27 February host the Premier's Service Excellence Awards.

The aim of the awards is to honour and showcase employees who have gone beyond the call of duty in performing their duties. The awards were established in 2002 with the purpose of promoting excellence amongst public servants in various areas of the provincial government.

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane said: "This is really about highlighting the good work public servants are doing and encouraging them to do even better. The awards also serve as an important service delivery improvement intervention."

"There is a common misconception that public servants are not dedicated, committed or efficient when in fact there are many men and women within the public service who are doing exceptional work," said Mokonyane.

The awards will celebrate the unsung heroes and bring to light the good work that officials are doing. The awards will go a long way in shifting the negative perceptions about public servants and ultimately lead to improved service delivery.

The awards are open to all Gauteng Provincial Government departments with the exception of the Office of the Premier.

The awards have six categories which are:

  • Outstanding Public Official Award
  • Best Project Award
  • Public Participation Award
  • The Best Service Site Award
  • Best Performing Department Award
  • Premier's Special Award

Details of the event are as follows:

Date: Thursday, 27 Feb 2014
