The Free State Provincial Government led by Premier Ace Magashule has invested massively to the educational needs of the Free Staters from different socio-economic backgrounds. The massive investment of the Provincial Government has resulted in many students being enabled access to various Tertiary Institutions within South Africa and many parts of the globe. The Provincial Government Bursary Scheme is targeting scarce skills areas and takes care of the financial aspects, accommodation, study aids, transport as well as ensuring that students have access to laptops to enable them to do their work with ease.
The Provincial Government has embarked on annual monitoring visits where the Premier, MECs, Director-General and HODs meet with the Management of the Institutions where our Bursary Holders study. This has been with a view to establish good relations and cultivate a condusive study environment for our students. Then they meet with the students in order to understand their plight and discuss ways that could improve their chances of completing their study fields in record time. It is stipulated in the Bursary Contracts that these students are expected to serve the Provincial Government and or Local Government of the areas where they originate from as part of combating service delivery weaknesses resulting from scarce skills.
The Free State Provincial Government Bursary Scheme is indicative of great efforts to contribute to the future of South Africa at large by ensuring a better education for all.
“These students have been given a great opportunity to accomplish their dreams and realize their true potential through education. Tertiary education is pivotal in shaping the lives of these students as they are the leaders of tomorrow. Education therefore remains a very critical tool in ensuring a better life for them”, says Premier Magashule.
It remains the Free State Government’s desire to leave a lasting legacy that will increase the number of appropriately skilled people that will, in the future, meet the demands of the emerging economic and social development and hopefully serve the province which is now ensuring a better tomorrow for them.
