Premier David Makhura unveils new Multipurpose Recreational Facility in Itireleng, Tshwane, 19 Sept

Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, will on Wednesday, 19 September 2018, officially open the new state of the art Multipurpose Sporting and Recreation Courts in Itireleng Informal Settlement, just outside Laudium in Tshwane.

Also known as Combi courts, the facility is the fourth of its kind in Gauteng with three others in the West Rand.  It is aimed at promoting healthy and active lifestyles and to get the youth involved in sport.

The facility has soccer fields, netball, basketball and tennis courts among others.

The initiative is made possible by the partnership between the Gauteng City Region and the Sports Trust.

Through its mass participation programme, the Gauteng government wants to promote healthy and active lifestyles in communities and at the same time work towards the transformation of sport.

To achieve this, the Gauteng government is on a drive to address shortage of sporting and recreational facilities and ensuring that all communities including those previously disadvantaged have access to well-equipped facilities with a variety of sporting codes.
