Women and Children campaign at Itsoseng in Ditsobotla local municipality

North West Premier, Kaobitsa Bushy Maape and Social Development MEC Boitumelo Moiloa will tomorrow, 30 November 2022 launch the annual 16 Days of Activism of No Violence against Women and Children campaign at Itsoseng in Ditsobotla local municipality.

The theme for the campaign is : “Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment to build Women’s Resilience against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide: Connect, Collaborate, Contract!”

The 16 Days Campaign is a United Nations campaign which takes place annually from 25 November (International Day of No Violence against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). The launch of 16 Days of Activism Campaign also takes place during Disability Rights Awareness Month (3 November-3 December 2022).

Given the scourge of Gender-Based Violence in the country, which is declared a national pandemic, government is implementing the Emergency Response Action Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, which was announced by President Cyril in September 2019.

The launch of the 16 days of activism campaign comes in the wake of shocking statistics released by the  Police Minister Bheki Cele indicating that 13 000 women were victims of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm between July and September this year. More than 10 000 rape cases were opened in the same period with the police.

The 16 Days Campaign forms the centre point of government’s comprehensive 365 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.
