North West Premier, Kaobitsa Bushy Maape will lead the North West Provincial Government delegation that will attend the tombstone unveiling ceremony for Mrs. Rebecca Kotane at Pella village.
A formidable struggle icon in her own right, Mama Rebecca Kotane as she was affectionately known, was the widow of the struggle stalwart Moses Kotane. She is mostly remembered for her role in the 9 August 1956 Women’s march to the Union Buildings alongside stalwarts such as Albertina Sisulu, Helen Joseph and Lillian Ngoyi. She was amongst many women who were detained by the apartheid regime.
The unveiling ceremony will take place as follows:
