Pre State of the Nation Address community outreach activities

Minister Trevor Manuel and the National Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa will visit two communities in the Western Cape, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha, on the morning of 13 February 2013 focussing on small and medium business, Early Childhood Development initiatives and youth employment. These three areas feature prominently in the National Development Plan.

This outreach activity, falling on the eve of the State of the Nation Address (SoNA), is part of the overall national effort, aimed at creating public awareness and excitement before SoNA and feature prominently in the communication strategy supported SoNA coordinated by GCIS. The Chair and Deputy Chairperson of the National Planning Commission will be using this visit to inform South Africans in more detail about the plan and listen to their views and get insight as to what members of the public feel are the most important NDP proposals that should be implemented during 2013. The aim is to take views gathered to the president for consideration and inclusion in his State of the Nation Address.

The day will conclude with the National Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa together with Minister Trevor Manual engaging with learners from 36 schools in Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha, students from both communities who are studying at CPUT, UWC, UCT and Stellenbosch and 20 unemployed youth to engage in a dialogue with the NPC at Parliament.
