On Wednesday, 23 January 2013, the North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Education, Sports, Arts and Culture will be conducting oversight visits to Ga-enthone Secondary in Tigane and Boschkraal Farm School in Matlosana Local Municipality, and Lesele Secondary School and Semetse Secondary School in Bapong village, Moses Kotane Local Municipality. All meetings will commence at 9h00.
The purpose of the visit will be to assess the schools’ readiness for 2013 and challenges these schools are facing, especially farm schools.
Ga-enthone Secondary in Tigane has been in the media for disruptions after learners complained of a high failure rate especially in Grade 9-11. Learners complained of hand written report cards that had marks for subjects that they did not do. Out of more than 800 learners in Grade 9-11, more than 400 failed.
The committee will be going there to assess the situation; to find out what their challenges are; and to interact with the learners and teachers so they can raise the issues in a meeting with the Department Education that will be held on Friday, 25 January 2013 at the Legislature to address all challenges found during the school visits.
Members of the media are invited to attend. For more information can contact Namhla Luhabe on 079 527 0628.
