MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa will be planting the first seeds of maize in the Matatiele area as part of the department’s massive ploughing drive that will see more than 10 000 hectors ploughed across the length and breadth of the province.
The drive to plough the unused communal land in the disadvantaged areas is part of the Zero Hunger Campaign which seeks to ensure people have food on their table.
Through the campaign, the department has engaged different stakeholders including traditional leaders, religious leaders and municipalities in a bid to ensure everyone was on board and assisting in developing the destitute communities.
