Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation leads national drive to institutionalise spatial evidence in government decision-making

The Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) will convene the inaugural Geospatial Information Management Strategy (GIMS) Coordination Committee Meeting on Wednesday, 29 October 2026. The inaugural meeting marks an important milestone in institutionalising of the GIMS as a whole-of-government coordination mechanism that strengthens planning, service delivery oversight, resource prioritisation and accountability through the use of spatial evidence.

Hosted under the theme, "Institutionalising Spatial Evidence for Integrated Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Decision-Making," the meeting will focus on governance arrangements, implementation priorities, data standards, reporting mechanisms, systems integration and institutional commitments necessary to drive the implementation of GIMS across government.

The first meeting of the GIMS coordination Committee will bring together representatives from various government institutions, planning and monitoring practitioners, geospatial information specialists, and decision-makers to activate a coordinated approach towards the use of spatial evidence in government planning, monitoring, evaluation and decision-making.
