Committee briefed on withholding of municipalities’ equitable share

The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will tomorrow (Tuesday, 12 May 2015) receive a briefing from the Department of COGTA on reasons why the distribution of equitable shares to 59 municipalities was withheld.

The 59 municipalities are among those which owe huge sums of money to Eskom and respective Water Boards. National Treasury and SALGA are expected to form part of tomorrow’s meeting.

Tomorrow will also see the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements interrogating whether plans by Free State and Northern Cape Departments of Human Settlements will help in meeting their 2015/16 housing delivery targets.

The Committee will also receive a briefing on how the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality intends contributing to the attainment of the Free State province’s housing delivery targets.
