Service delivery in Free State under spotlight

The Select Committee on Social Services together with the Select Committee on Education and Recreation will undertake a weeklong oversight visit to the Free State as part of its oversight function over the Executive.

The visit will commence with a look into progress made in the eradication of the bucket system within formal settlements in the province as well as an analysis into provision of bulk water supply to residents in the province.   

On education, the Committee will interact with the provincial department of education to get information on the rationalisation programme of small or non-viable schools within the Free State. The delegation will also visit the University of the Free State to get a briefing on its transformation programmes. 

The visit will culminate with a visit to the Bloemwater Conduit Hydropower Plant and, Anglo-Boer War Museum in Bloemfontein. The Committees will consider the strategic overview of the institutions, governance, audit outcomes and challenges facing the institutions.

The delegation will visit various project sites as part of its programme.
