Parliament embarks on oversight visits across South Africa, 18 to 21 Aug

National Council of Provinces’ (NCOP) Committees embark on oversight visits across South Africa

The Committees of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will this week meet with ordinary people, private companies, government departments and entities across the country as they assess the state of service delivery.
During the NCOP Oversight Week (18-21 August), the Select Committees grouped as clusters will undertake joint oversight visits to the provinces of North West, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

The following NCOP Committees will be conducting oversight visits:

  • Select Committees on Economic and Business Development, Trade and International Relations will be in the North West to interact with Bojanala District Municipality regarding issues of regional economy, investment and employment opportunities and challenges in the region.
  • Select Committees on Social Services, and Education and Recreation will visit Gauteng and North West to assess progress on the revitalisation of mining towns as well as human settlement programmes for military veterans. The Committees will also visit the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Krugersdorp to assess the conditions there.
  • Select Committees on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Security and Justice, and Petitions and Executive Undertakings will assess service delivery issues in Ventersdorp, Tswaing and Rustenburg municipalities in the North West.
  • Select Committees on Appropriations and Finance will visit KwaZulu-Natal to focus on issues such as the Municipal Infrastructure Grant, School Infrastructure Backlogs Grant and National Health Insurance Grant and conditional grant projects.
  • Select Committees on Communications and Public Enterprises, and Land and Mineral Resources will be in Gauteng, North West and Limpopo to interact with communities, mining companies and the Department of Mineral Resources regarding public consultation before the issuing of prospecting licences.
