Parliament convenes virtual Sector Parliaments planning session, 6 to 7 Oct

Parliament will, tomorrow and Wednesday, host a virtual Sector Parliaments Planning Session to determine the overarching policy priorities of the Sixth Parliament.

The Session, to be led by the National Assembly Deputy Speaker Mr Lechesa Tsenoli and the National Council of Provinces Deputy Chairperson Ms Sylvia Lucas, will be held under the theme: “Towards a Sectoral Oversight Framework: Strengthening Three Sphere Coordination and Oversight, Through a Targeted Policy Focus, for Accelerated Implementation.”

Among the objectives of the Session are to consider a poverty mapping overview as a means to anchor a policy priority focus on sectoral platforms; and to determine measurable objectives for Sector Parliaments in order to oversee the accelerated implementation of the policy objectives of Vision 2030.

Participants in the session include representatives of the nine provincial legislatures, the United Nations Development Programme, Statistics South Africa, and the Financial and Fiscal Commission.
