Committee holds final land public hearings in Cape Town
The Portfolio Committee on Rural Development and Land Reform will this week conclude its nationwide public hearings on the Restitution of Land Rights Amendment Bill in Cape Town, Western Cape.
The Committee members will tomorrow (Tuesday, January 28) afford the communities, stakeholders and interested persons from Gugulethu and other areas to make inputs and comments on the proposed legislation at Gugulethu Sports Complex, Dullah Omar Region.
On Wednesday (January 29), the Committee will meet with experts, academia and civil society organisations during the national public hearings in Parliament at E249 Second Floor, New Wing, National Assembly.
The Bill is aimed at bringing about the second phase of land claims and restitution to allow all people and communities that were dispossessed of their land as a result of the 19 June 1913 Native Land Act, including those who missed the deadline of the first lodgement phase (31st Dec 1998), to lodge their claims through the Land Claims Commission.
