Parliament bids farewell to Auditor-general, Mr Terence Nombembe

Media are invited to join Parliament’s Presiding Officers at a farewell to honour the Auditor-General, Mr Terence Nombembe, whose term of office expires on 30 November 2013.

Mr Nombembe has completed his seven-year term of office with distinction and was the first African to hold the position of Auditor-General since its establishment in 1911.

Deputy President, Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, is expected to attend the farewell and so is the Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan.

Other Cabinet Members expected to attend are Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology (and former Chairperson of the Standing Committee on the Auditor-General), Advocate Michael Masutha.

Invitations have been extended to Institutions Supporting Democracy, state institutions, civil society, business and labour organisations.

Members of Parliament and senior Parliamentary officials have also been invited.

All media who wish to attend the farewell should please confirm their attendance with the Media Management Unit by 15.00 on Monday, 4 November 2013.

Media who do not have Parliamentary media access permits, and wish to attend the farewell, must also supply the following details:

  • Full name
  • ID/passport number
  • Name of media organisation and media group
  • Designation (writer, photographer or broadcaster, for example)
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Mobile phone number
