The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, in an effort to expand, enhance and offer balanced public library services will be launching Overdrive e-books (electronic books) as follows:

Overdrive is a leading distributor of e-content such as e-books, audiobooks, music and videos for public libraries, schools and retailers. In order to access Overdrive e-books, the Department purchased 50 mobile tablets to be used by the public in the 25 public libraries that will be participating in the first phase of the project. The tablets will be rolled out to the rest of the public libraries in the province in phases. Overdrive e-books cover a wide spectrum of reading matter from novels to educational material.
Library users will also be able to access Overdrive e-books at their own convenience without having to travel to the library if they have the following:
- Public Library membership number
- Access to the internet via a desktop computer or laptop/notebook/netbook
- Access to internet via any mobile device with Android software, Blackberry, Ipad, Iphone etc.
